One of a kind stunning fairtrade handmade earrings.
Earrings are made out of hand sewed Mola fabric in one side and suede in the other side. Size: 4.5 cm = 1.77'' diameter each.
In Colombia, people refer to that type of fabric and sometimes the whole finished product as "MOLA" or "MOLAS". You can find machine made Mola panels. Our mola products are hand sewed.
Our items are fair-trade and we use natural, biodegradable materials that have been harvested in a sustainable manner. Our two chief aims are environmental preservation and giving talented but disadvantaged artisans an opportunity to participate in a leveled global market.
MOLA - in Kuna language is the blouse of the Kuna women’s traditional dress, and is decorated with two very complex handcrafted panels (front & back). These panels are created with a technique called "reverse appliqué", like a colorful collage of textiles with unique designs (tribal symbols with cultural and religious meanings). Several layers (usually two to seven) of different-colored cloth (usually cotton) are sewn together; the design is then formed by cutting parts of each layer away.
MOLA panels have found their way into world-renowned museums around the world and are prized by Folk & Indigenous Art collectors.
